Making art for me, is like an act of coming home to my true self. There is so
much in this word that I find beautiful; the changing colours of the sky and
ocean; the patterns of a shell or a rock face or the trunk of a tree; the curves of
the human form. Through exploring and expressing what I am feeling in
response to this beauty, I feel my connection to it all. Sometimes the
inspiration wants to be expressed in a realistic manner, sometimes I get
involved in the patterns of a form and a more abstract or ambiguous image is
the result. And although It’s great to create a finished art work, most of the
time it’s the process that is more important to me.
I enjoy using a variety of media, but mainly use acrylic or oil paints,
watercolours, and inks both on papers and canvas. I also sometimes
incorporate collage elements into my work.
I have degrees in Primary School Education, a Bachelor of Visual Arts and
recently completed a Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Arts (Art Therapy). In
my quest to improve and expand my skill base I have done several short
courses over the years in pottery, printmaking, and other art techniques.
Although now retired from the education system I still enjoy teaching art and
like to run classes and workshops when I can. I really enjoy sharing my skills
and knowledge to guide and help others connect with their innate creativity.
Art can be so therapeutic and has always helped me process and express my
emotional nature. Creating art often brings me to that quiet, still place inside
and fills me with peace and joy. This healing quality of art is what I wish to
share through my artwork and teaching.
